Become a Virtual Assistant

How I become a Virtual Assistant

How did I even become a virtual assistant in my late 40’s?  Well, if you genuinely love to learn new things, this would not be a problem.  You might encounter a rough patch or two, but as what I have answered when our mentor asked what was my greatest takeaway on the 14-day classroom training and 21 days Digital Marketing Campaign, I mentioned that the totality of the course is a special gift and I have learned to be never too shy or afraid to ask questions.  Thus, I am on my way of training to be a Virtual Assistant, enriching my necessary skills to be productive in this digitally competitive field.

Fresh off the Job – Back with Vengeance

I am a firm believer that everything in our lives happens for a reason.  When I got dismissed due to a change of ownership on the day before my 46th birthday, I would not have believed if someone would say I could be a virtual assistant.  Of course, I felt betrayed, who would not when you felt like you were made to train someone who would replace you on the premise that she will be a reliever in the office?  Well, I did I got relieved!  I have since moved on, and I got my vengeance when we met in the office of the DOLE for them to settle and give what is due to me as an employee!  Lesson learned for scheming employers, never fire an employee whom you have not compensated well.

A break after 24 years

Since getting married, I have been working straight and never had a vacation/ break or leave except for a few months on maternity leave.  I never had a vacation that is not on a school calendar’s holidays, or not that which falls on Sundays.   So when I found myself without a job after 24 years, I was lost.  But I used the time to do things that I love like starting a pocket garden, clean up the drawers and cabinets,  read books, lounge as I want to,  traveled to the city whenever I need to (when my budget allows too!), even went to Cebu City for a well-deserved vacation (it’s what I can afford with my money anyway)!  I never knew getting fired out of a job can be liberating!  Never rush in the morning to get to a depressing job that has you wanting to clock out as soon as you clock in.  I then came to realize that it was God’s way of telling me that a lot of things are worth doing other than staying in a job that, come to think of it makes you feel miserable.

Hitting Gold on Social Media

There I was doing the national past time of scrolling through a social media account, I noticed this Digital Seminar that is sponsored by DICT and LGU of Valencia City and it’s FREE!  So I sent out my details and waited it out.  By God’s providence, I was chosen to be one of the scholars, and I never looked back since then.
We were made to do 35 tasks that simulate skills that a competitive digital freelancer needs to know.  We struggled and wondered and clawed our way through each day of the seminar.  But it was all worth it knowing this will temper and prepare us as we individually set out on our chosen niche or expertise. As for me, I can see myself be as a Virtual Assistant, the best in the town!
